Virgins to be returned (2009)
This is an action that plays with the concept of “giving back”
things that have been imposed on women through centuries of history.
The Work refers to the concept of “virginity” through one of the most
influential icons of our society: The Virgin. She is a mother but, on
the other hand, she is a virgin associating virginity with a pure and
correct woman in contrast to sex and sin.
To take advantage of being at Christmas time, the author proposes a
collective gathering to get Virgin figures that are placed inside
nativity scenes in order to send them back to the Vatican with a note
that says:
“BECAUSE OF A CONCEPTUAL MISTAKE ABOUT THIS
PRODUCT, I AM PROCEEDING TO ITS RETURN. I’M
GIVING IT BACK TO YOU INTACT”
